THE WALL OF TRUMPS

In 2017 a group of young designers came together to put on a local exhibition in Hereford called Viro based around the word environment. We wanted to use this opportunity to comment on the social environment surrounding Donald Trump’s 2016 election using our design skills and humour. The aim of this illustrated project was to visualise some of Trumps controversial comments and opinions and by doing so, start a conversation about his presidency. The Viro exhibition consisted of nine trumps creating The Wall of Trumps and was well received by the public and gave us that opportunity to discuss ‘Trump’ with people both for and against his election.

Original Nine:
SUPER TRUMP | TRUMPY THE CLOWN | NAZI TRUMP
EL TRUMPO | PRESIDENT TRUMP | WALL BUILDER TRUMP
I’M A REAL TRUMP | HOOKER TRUMP | TRUMP SUPPORTER TRUMP

The Wall of Trumps slowly grew into its own brand spawning merchandise, posters, infographics and even more illustrated Trumps each time he made a controversial comment or offended a minority group.

Series Two:
GOLFER TRUMP | TWEETY TRUMP |
KLANSMAN TRUMP | RUSSIAN TRUMP

This project was a part of our Final Major Project during our third year of university and was exhibited as part of HCA Synthesis 2018.

THE IDEA BEHIND THE WALL

SUPER TRUMP

The depiction of Trump as a ‘superhero’ is to visualise the idea of trump being in a position where he is viewed as a role model. We want the younger generations to be able to idolise the leader of the free world.

EL TRUMPO

El Trumpo was created in response to Trump’s comments on Mexicans and the illegal immigration crisis. Trump has offended thousands of Mexican-American citizens with the way he painted all Mexicans as illegal immigrants, criminals and even rapists.

I'M A REAL TRUMP

We depicted Trump as a puppet to enforce the idea that maybe he is just a front man, a puppet for the Republican Party to use and manipulate? If only his nose grew with each lie like Pinocchio’s!

GOLFER TRUMP

After berating Obama for spending too much time playing golf, Trump has spent twice as much time on a golf course than the previous president. Number of games played during first year in office: Obama’s 39 games to Trump’s 88 games.

RUSSIAN TRUMP

We wanted to comment on the speculation surrounding the Russian involvement in Trumps favour during the 2016 election and thought there is no better way than to depict him as a stereotypical Russian. We feel the entire Wall of Trumps would transfer really well into a collection of Russian nesting dolls.

TRUMPY THE CLONE

We dressed Trump up as a clown to express what we feel the majority of the western world thinks of him, he’s a joke, a clown, someone that should stick to entertaining the masses. Not be responsible for their future and well-being.

PRESIDENT TRUMP

We think this may be the funniest Trump we have created. How could a man like Donald Trump could ever become President of the United States? It’s just a little worrying.

HOOKER TRUMP

The idea behind having Trump visualised as a stripper was to comment on the misogynistic views and comments he expressed towards women. His campaign opponent Hillary Clinton was often the target of his unrelated sexist comments. We depicted Trump, the same way, we believe he views women, as an object and toy for men’s pleasure.

TWEETY TRUMP

We created Tweety Trump, a Twitter bird to visualise his use of the social media platform. In 2017 Trump tweeted over 2500 times, deleting 64 tweets, mentioned Fox & Friends 46 times, tweeting 174 times using the phrase ‘fake news’ and sent 5 tweets threatening North Korea’s leader Kim Jung-Un. This is not something you would expect from the President of the United States of America.

KLANSMAN TRUMP

We chose to dress Trump in a tradition Klansman’s robe in response to his refusal to condemn the Klan’s and other alt-right groups views regarding race and religion. Including their involvement in the Charlottesville rally riots in 2017.

NAZI TRUMP

We chose to visualise Trump as a member of the Nazi Party to resemble that maybe Trump’s views aren’t so different. This is a bold statement we know, but one we think the majority will agree with. Hitler was famous for his empowering hate fuelled speeches, Trump is continuously making the headlines for his speeches often insulting minority groups and making unsavoury comments on subjects like immigration, sexism, sexuality and even mocking a disabled reporter.

WALL BUILDER TRUMP

We depicted Donald Trump as a builder working on his wall between America and Mexico to comment on Trump’s crazy idea of how to stop illegal immigrants crossing the border. However, this may also show off one of Trumps only redeeming qualities, his passion and commitment although often offensive shows he does not care how he is received and he will stand for what he believes in.

TRUMP SUPPORTER TRUMP

This depiction of Trump was a visualisation of the stereotypical Trump supporter, idiotic, small minded, racist, red neck trash, often these words are thrown at anyone who suggests they approve of Trumps election.
